How to Cover 120,000 sqm Efficiently at CIHS 2026

120,000 sqm is not a walking problem. It is a filtering problem. At CIHS 2026 you will see more than 3,000 exhibitors across ten product categories, from hand tools and fasteners to smart locks, garden tools, abrasives, and cordless power tools. The buyers who cover the most ground are not the ones who walk faster. They are the ones who decide before they leave the hotel what they will not stop for.

CIHS 2025 closed with 2,977 exhibitors and 77,016 professional visitors from 123 countries [1]. The 2026 edition will span a total exhibition area of 120,000 square meters at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. That number sounds large, but it becomes manageable when you split it into category routes, pre-booked meetings, and a realistic daily reset.

Build a 3-Day Route, Not a Booth List

Start with the hall plan. Do not begin by listing every supplier that looks interesting. Begin by locating the category clusters where your highest-value products sit: fastening products, building hardware, power tools, pneumatic tools, abrasives, welding supplies, hand tools, garden and outdoor tools, safety protection equipment, and intelligent locking systems [2].

The most efficient buyers use a simple rule: one category cluster per half-day. Morning is for the technical categories where decisions take longer. Afternoon is for walking new aisles, collecting catalogues, and checking booths you did not pre-book.

If you are sourcing fasteners and building hardware first, start in the hall that carries those categories and work outward. If you are sourcing smart locks and electronic access control, do that while you are fresh. Do not mix rough hardware with technical electronics in the same two-hour block. The shift in questions, certification checks, and negotiation style slow you down more than the walking does.

Download the official hall plan and mark your clusters before you land. A printed plan costs you two minutes and saves a full morning.

Use a 45-Minute Booth Pattern

Every booth visit should follow the same structure. Spend the first ten minutes on the product category, the second ten on certification and compliance, the third ten on MOQ and lead time, and the final fifteen on samples, pricing tiers, and next actions.

This pattern keeps you from turning a booth visit into a long, unfocused conversation. It also makes it easier to compare suppliers later. Before you leave, record the same five data points for every supplier: product category, country of origin of components, certification status, MOQ, and quoted lead time.

If the booth does not match your route, take a photograph of the booth number and a business card and move on. You can follow up after the fair. Do not let a friendly conversation pull you 45 minutes off your schedule.

Midway through the day, send a quick update to your office or buying team. If you are covering 120,000 sqm with a colleague, split the halls by category and set a daily debrief. The CIHS Buyer Services team can help you map supplier targets before the fair: call +86 21 6390 6161-832 or email [email protected].

Collect Samples Without Losing the Day

Sampling is where many buyers lose time. Do not carry heavy samples across the hall. Ask exhibitors to ship samples to your hotel, your office, or the fair’s freight and logistics desk. Most exhibitors will arrange this if you provide clear shipping details.

Photograph the booth, the sample code, the contact card, and the catalogue page together before you leave the booth. That single habit makes post-fair follow-up dramatically easier.

Use a simple rating on the back of each business card: A for short-listed, B for follow-up later, C for not relevant. Do not wait until the end of the day to sort catalogues. The pile becomes noise quickly.

Cover 120,000 sqm with a Daily Reset

A full day at CIHS should look like this.

Time Action Why
9:00–10:30 Visit your first category cluster Fresh energy for detailed technical questions
10:30–12:00 Pre-booked supplier meetings Priority conversations before aisles get crowded
12:00–13:00 Lunch near the halls Short break, no long restaurant detours
13:00–15:00 Walk one new aisle per hour Discover new suppliers without losing focus
15:00–16:30 Second category cluster or revisits Compare short-listed booths side by side
16:30–17:00 Daily debrief and photo log Capture notes while memory is fresh

At the end of each day, spend 20 minutes reviewing your A cards. Move any unresolved questions to the next morning. Delete booths that did not meet your minimum sourcing requirements.

What Not to Do at a 120,000 sqm Fair

Do not try to see everything. You will see less, not more. Do not follow the crowd into every crowded booth unless the supplier is already on your list. Do not accept every catalogue offered by every passer-by. Do not skip lunch to gain time; fatigue leads to weaker questions and slower decisions.

Do not leave a booth without a clear next step. That next step can be a sample request, a meeting at the visitor service desk, a price sheet, or a follow-up email. If there is no next step, the visit did not count.

Register Now and Route Your Sourcing

The efficient way to cover CIHS 2026 starts before the doors open. Register for your visitor badge, download the official hall plan, and send your category priorities to the CIHS Buyer Services team. We will point you to the right halls, matchmaking sessions, and online supplier tools so your first day starts with meetings, not guesswork.

FAQ

How many days do I need to cover CIHS efficiently?

Three full days is the practical minimum for 120,000 sqm. Day one is for surveying the halls and validating your category map. Day two is for pre-booked supplier meetings and sampling. Day three is for revisiting short-listed booths and confirming next steps. If you buy across three or more categories, add a fourth day.

Do I need to pre-book supplier meetings before the fair?

Yes, at least for your top 20 suppliers. Use the CIHS online showroom and matchmaking system before you travel. Pre-booked meetings keep you from spending the day walking past suppliers you should have met.

Which hall should I start with?

Start with the hall that contains your highest-volume product category. If you mainly buy fasteners and building hardware, begin there and work outward. The official hall plan shows the category clusters, and the visitor service desk can print the current layout.

Can I collect samples without carrying them all day?

Yes. Ask exhibitors to ship samples or use the fair’s freight and logistics desk. Photograph the booth, sample code, contact card, and catalogue page together before you leave. Do not wait until the end of the day to sort everything.

Should I bring a printed hall plan or use the mobile app?

Use both. A printed plan is faster for marking your route and works even when the halls are crowded or connectivity is slow. The mobile app is better for real-time booth lookups and meeting reminders.
